Vinfen's Developmental Disabilities and Mental Health Film Festival

Vinfen's 30th Anniversary Celebration

Museum of Fine Arts
100 Huntington Avenue
Boston, MA 02116

Saturday, March 15, 2008
Welcome: 10:30 AM
Screening and Panels: 10:45 AM – 5:30 PM

Vinfen’s film festival, with films by and about individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness, is the first of its kind in Boston. To be co-presented with the Museum of Fine Arts Film Program and Honorary Chairs, Governor Michael Dukakis and Kitty Dukakis, the Film Festival will foster insight, understanding, discussion, and education to counter prejudice and discrimination. The Film Festival will be a day of free concurrent screenings (separate tracks for films about mental health and developmental disabilities) that will be followed by audience discussions led by subject experts, individuals served, and filmmakers. As an extension of Vinfen’s mission, the film festival will share our belief that people with developmental disabilities and mental illness deserve to be treated with dignity and respect so that they can lead productive lives within the community.

The Massachusetts Mental Health Center will offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to licensed social workers, psychologists, nurses, certified counselors, marital and family counselors who attend. Cost is $35 for a certificate payable to MMHC after the event. Requirements will be on Vinfen’s Film Festival webpage after February 15, 2008. Registration will be available on-line and on-site at the MFA.

A Gala Reception from 6 – 8 p.m. at the MFA’s Bravo Restaurant will celebrate Vinfen’s 30th Anniversary honoring two leaders for their contributions: Bernie Carey, the President of Massachusetts Association of Mental Health and Gerry Morrissey, former Commissioner of the Department of Mental Retardation.

Please visit Vinfen’s website and sign up for the free festival. Those who let us know that they plan to attend will receive a Festival poster as our gift by bringing the printable coupon to the Museum. Please note that seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  We will reserve space for wheelchairs or other special needs.

You may also purchase spaces at the Gala Reception, find more information about CEUs, or get a schedule of film screenings on Vinfen’s website (www.vinfen.org). Contact fieldj@vinfen.org if you have questions or would like to be on the mailing list. The MFA is fully ADA accessible. For directions to the Museum of Fine Arts, public transportation, and parking information, please log onto www.mfa.org.
